About Me

Malik is a multidisciplinary designer living and working in Portland, Oregon. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and raised in Colorado, his diverse upbringing shapes his creative work and perspective.

Along with studying for his BFA in Graphic Design at Portland State University, Malik serves as the creative brain and co-founder of the design studio Emissaries, a venture he launched with friends.

He views design as a distinct and elevated form of communication, capable of expressing what words alone cannot capture. Just as true communication requires the interaction between two individuals, design demands engagement to come to life. Without an observer, design remains incomplete, waiting to fulfill its purpose. It is in this dynamic relationship between the creator and the viewer that design transcends mere aesthetics, becoming a dialogue that speaks in visual, emotional, and experiential languages. Design, therefore, is not just a product but a conduit for connection, a bridge between ideas and understanding, inviting participation to reveal its full potential.

Malik is committed to deepening his exploration of this concept in all his creative endeavors. He sees his work as an ongoing journey to better understand how design can serve as a bridge between self-awareness and genuine connection. His passion project A_P (A_PAVILION) explores how genuine connection stems from self-awareness. He sees design as a tool for self-discovery, emphasizing that understanding oneself is key to forming true connections—a pursuit he believes is vital to life. Through each project, Malik strives to uncover new insights into how design can foster meaningful interactions, pushing the boundaries of how we perceive and engage with the world around us.
